Up, Up, Up to Mountain House, and Back Down

On this sunny, clear day, we decided to drive up to Mountain House. This is the building where people must register and can then access the trail up to the peak of Pico Mountain.

A very narrow road, with no barriers, leads from the main road up to Mountain House. We stopped once on the way up to take pictures, and we were just below the clouds. We then drove through the clouds as we approached our destination. A little further up we broke through to crystal clear skies again. It was so interesting to be standing in the parking lot above the cloud cover, where we enjoyed beautiful warm sunshine and a clear view of Pico Mountain.

Tip of the Day:

This trip is so worth it! It was kind of eerie as we navigated the narrow roads through the cloud cover, but once you’re through the clouds, you get an awe-inspiring experience. One of the advantages of a long stay on Pico is that you can wait for the right day to take this drive. We’ve run into several people that are only on Pico for two to five days. They are missing so much!
