Today we did the Ladeira dos Moinhos trail. It begins and ends in Sao Roque. It is 3.4 km long and is graded as an ‘easy’ trail. The steep climbs (180 meters up) and uneven footing were somewhat challenging for these flatlanders, but we really enjoyed the scenery along the way.
After our hike, we ate our picnic lunch while parked facing the mountain. There truly is not a bad view on this island.
After lunch, we decided to drive the road that crosses the island, from Sao Roque to Lajes. We had done part of this road with Carlos and Laura last week. The amount of elevation gained every few minutes kept our ears popping. Steve loved driving this steep, winding mountain road, and Sue tried not to gasp at every curve!
From Lajes we drove the coast road back to our home base in Madalena.
Another wonderful day on Pico!
